Trying To Understand People Who Don’t Like Sports

Okay, so I am starting this off by saying that this isn’t a shot at anyone who does not embrace in the world of sports in any kind, but it is just trying to get and understand of what are you doing if they aren’t in your life.

Listen up people, sports make the world go round. I truly feel that way. Every single day, there is some sport going on that thousands, probably millions are witnessing live on TV, streaming, or in person. Every day there can be a unique storyline that involves your favorite sport. Look at the NBA recently, Anthony Davis going from being apart of the Pelicans future plans to wanting to be traded has been in the news for days it feels. And that isn’t even the game part, that is the front office aspect. There is so many layers in sports to appreciate, which is why I just want to understand.

“I don’t like sports.” A definition – Sports: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. So you are trying to tell me, there isn’t one single form of a sport that you enjoy? It literally can be a game of hockey, a swimming meet, a car driving around the track, a dance competition, a wrestling match, or a simple baseball game. If you like none of these, good on you I guess.

I feel bad really, I do. Think of the best moments in sports. I know from experience that they can give you the absolute best emotions in the world – where you jump up, hug everyone in the room, scream from the rooftops – and the worst – where you’re angry, sad, miserable, collapse onto the floor. Those emotions can all be reached within seconds when it comes to the sports world. Look back at the Patriots-Chiefs AFC Conference Championship Game. When CB Jonathan Jones almost picked of Patrick Mahomes, I rose to my feet and collapsed within a second span. It all hits you, the stress, the sadness, the hopelessness, the excitement, and the pure happiness.

So really, if you hate sports, how do you not experience a reaction when you see this:

In these five videos, I can tell you first hand I felt both excitement and pain. When Malcolm Butler picked the ball off on the one yard line, I can’t say I had ever been happier in a single moment in my life to truly be honest. The Sale strikeout, just absolutely awesome. Another jump to your feet after your heart was pounding even though there should have been doubt at that point. Michael Phelps breaking a world record? Witnessing that? He is the greatest Olympian of all time, and in cheering for him, you may have been jumping up and down as the record was in sight. Ronda Rousey losing for the first time and getting knocked out to do so. Devastation. Heart sinking defeat for me personally and I can’t even explain why. It’s just tough. The Blackhawks coming back and winning in game six of the Stanley Cup Final in 2013 in 17 seconds. That feeling will never be topped because it is the weirdest of them all. Your heart drops when they tie it up with a minute to go, and somehow they score again and you can’t accept or stomach the fact that the Bruins just lost the Stanley Cup because it all happened faster than you could say “At least there may be overtime.”

Yes, I had all these emotions. Because Sports are beautiful people. Sure, maybe someone doesn’t want to work in sports and just keep them in your heart somewhere special, I totally get that. But not having this excitement for any sport in the world ever in your life? I just don’t get it.

What I’m asking for is for this to be shared, get the question out there and give me an answer how people go on in their lives without sports. Please, there are people truly missing out and lying to themselves.

And for the people who understand the feelings that I have, the Super Bowl is Sunday. Here goes another live changing experience of fear, anger, (hopefully) happiness, and more.

Antonio Brown wants out of Pittsburgh

Antonio Brown is the root of the latest off the field storyline in what was a season to forget for the boys in black and yellow. Ownership was unwilling to pay up for star running back Le’Veon Bell over the last few seasons, which caused headaches for everyone in the Steelers organization all the way through the first ten weeks of the season. While James Connor was able to pick up most of the slack, news of whether Bell would return or not clouded the team for most of the season. Many lineman spoke out against Bell and led the team to be at least partially divided.

Now, Antonio Brown is creating waves in Pittsburg. After missing practices during the week, and skipping a team meeting Saturday before a must-win game, Brown was benched on Sunday. He reportedly left the stadium at half-time and did not show up to exit-interviews on Monday.

Brown requested a trade on Tuesday, according to Jason La Canfora:

It appears as if Brown is on the way out. Keeping him around would just create more drama at this point, even as good as he is. Juju Smith-Schuster looks more than ready to take over as the number one, go-to Wide Receiver in Pittsburg. James Washington has impressed in the Steel City, showing promise as a future number two Wide-Out. That said, Antonio Brown is the best Wide Receiver in football and losing him will cost the Steelers offensively next season. Brown is under the Steelers control through 2021, leaving him to the mercy of the Steelers upper-management.

Why The 49ers Will Be In The Playoffs Next Season

The San Francisco 49ers had so much hope going into the 2018 season. They acquired a  young promising quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, the signed Richard Sherman, as well as some weapons on offense, and picked up running back Jerick McKinnon. Unfortunately bad luck hit this team before the first snap of the season. First, McKinnon tore his ACL before the season even started. Then in week three, Garoppolo tore his ACL and just like that, the 49ers faithful knew it was going to be another long year. The fans would have to wait at least one more season for this team to strike gold again.

Besides injuries being the main cause of the Niners struggles this season, this team also knew how to blow it in close games. The 49ers showed fight and were in every game, even though they had second and third string running backs, receivers, and defenders out there for most of these games. Even though these guys played decent, they committed unnecessary penalties, or turned the ball over late in games.

One of the best games this season was against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. The Niners backup quarterback C.J. Beathard outdueled Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for most of the game, but when it was tied late, Beathard tried to play hero and threw a deep interception. San Francisco just need a few more yards for a first down, run the clock down, and then kick a field goal. Instead Rodgers was given enough time to drive down the field and win the game for Green Bay, as he is known to do. It was this game that cemented a long season for the Niners as they fell to 1-5 on the year.

Now for the positives of 2018 for the red and gold. George Kittle was an undrafted free agent in 2017 and in just his second year in the NFL, became one of the best tight ends in the game. Kittle was the 49ers unexpected MVP and he set the all-time single season receiving yards record for a tight end. Kittles best game was against the Broncos when he went for 210 yards on just seven receptions. This guy had to deal with three quarterbacks, Garoppolo, Beathard, and another breakout star in Nick Mullens.

George Kittle #46 and C.J. Beathard #16 have been teammates since their days at Iowa

Yes Nick Mullens was a big positive for the Niners in the second half of the season and beyond. When Brett Favre, talked highly of his guy you knew that this team had another hidden gem. Mullens played at the same college as Favre, which was the University of Southern Mississippi. Mullens was a fabulous college quarterback and broke a lot of Favres records there. He showed his leadership and skill early when he threw for 16/22 against the Raiders and three touchdown passes. Even though it was against Oakland, this third string quarterback showed veteran presence on the field, even when he was only a practice QB at one point. Mullens will either be the backup to Garoppolo next year or possibly be a great trade target for this team. Either way, this guy was pure gold.

Overall, the 49ers have been in a lot of tough games, most of which resulted in loses. They dealt with injuries, young players making mistakes at critical times, and just not having enough weapons. This team was the only NFL team to play without it’s starting quarterback and running back, yet still had a chance to win on any given Sunday. Besides getting destroyed by the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers battled and found some hidden talent in their depth. If this team stays healthy, drafts well, and picks up a few more veterans, they have the potential to win 9 or 10 games next season and maybe even give the Rams a run for their money.

Patriots drop the ball (multiple times) versus Steelers

Nothing hurts worse than losing a game you feel like should have resulted in a win. That is exactly what I would say happened Sunday afternoon against the Steelers in what was a playoff atmosphere. Patriots vs Steelers has the “these teams don’t like each other” feel as the two sides have clashed in some huge games over the years. When these team’s matchup the game always seems to go down to the wire. This game was no different, though this time the Steelers came out on top.

What made this loss so difficult, beyond the playoff implications, was that it felt like a winnable game. I hate to be generic, but the Patriots really did shoot themselves in the foot and played like a losing football team. They had four dropped passes, three of which were uncontested passes right on the numbers. To add to that they committed 14 penalties, the most by the Patriots since 2014. Also, Tom Brady throw a horrible pass on an extremely uncharacteristic play that was picked off by Joe Haden.

The defense got carved up yardage wise but came through in the clutch. Duran Harmon caught two interceptions off two poor choices by Ben Roethlisberger, as the team held the Steelers dynamic offense to only 17 points. The Patriots defense played good enough to win this game and clinch the AFC East despite looking lost at times.

The killer is that the Steelers kept hurting themselves too. Pittsburg was unable to put points on the board despite moving the ball downfield consistently. A large part of that was aided by Harmon and the previously mentioned interceptions. They also missed a chip shot field-goal as Chris Boswell is known to do. The only time the Patriots were able to make plays was when the Steelers had massive blown coverages in the secondary. Chris Hogan will never be more open in his life than he was on that touchdown. The other notable pass was when Edelman caught a big chunk play where two defenders ran into each other and knocked themselves down.

The Patriots did not play like a Super Bowl contenders and more than likely just lost the a chance for a first-round bye week in the playoffs. The good news is that the Patriots still have the tie-breaker over the Texans and could sneak into the second seed if things start to go wrong in Houston. Regardless of what happened tonight, they will have another shot at a championship this season, and the Patriots still have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. That means anything can happen.

WEEK 13 SMART STARTS & PINE RIDERS

The last week of the Fantasy regular season is here and this could be a crucial one for many. Maybe even do or die for some of you. So hopefully I can lend a hand and help you guys make decisions to your lineups this week that can push you towards that victory. Good luck to all and I hope you enjoy the article.!

SMART STARTS

QB

RUSSELL WILSON, SEA

NFL: NOV 09 Seahawks at Cardinals

Wilson has been on fire since week 5, throwing 18 touchdown passes and only 2 interceptions. And going up against a San Fran defense that has allowed 2+ passing touchdowns in all but two games this year, I see Wilson’s streak of multiple touchdowns per game continuing. I easily see him as a top 10 play this week.

JAMEIS WINSTON, TB

Yes, I had him as a smart start last week. Yes, I was correct. Yes, he will do it again. He is playing Carolina who has allowed 12 passing touchdowns in the past four weeks. And in the five games Jameis has started this year, he has thrown for over 300 yards three times and the Panthers have allowed that twice in the past three games. Winston should be flirting with top 5 QB numbers this week.

RB

PHILLIP LINDSAY, DEN

Denver’s backfield is no longer a committee. Royce Freeman has been nothing because of the red hot undrafted rookie. Since week 7, Lindsay has at least 15 touches in each game. He also has 5 touchdowns during that span as well. And facing a disastrous Cincinnati rush defense who has allowed opposing backs to rush for 460 yards and five touchdowns in the past 3 weeks, I see Lindsay as a high end RB2 this week.

GUS EDWARDS, BAL

In the two weeks of Lamar Jackson starting, Gus has had at least 17 carries and broke the 115 yard mark in both games. There is a great chance he keeps it going, playing against Atlanta who has allowed 454 rushing yards in the past three weeks. As long as Lamar is out there, Gus should be in your lineups.

WR

LARRY FITZGERALD, ARZ

853861584-0

The veteran and future Hall of Famer has been on the up ever since Byron Leftwich took over as OC. In those four weeks he has 4 touchdown catches versus only 1 in the first 7 games. Rosen has learned to look for Larry in the red zone and that should continue this week against the porous Packers secondary who have allowed 6 receiving touchdowns in the past five weeks. Look for Larry Legend to have a solid Sunday.

DJ MOORE, CAR

In the past three weeks, Moore has exploded as he has caught 19 passes out of 22 targets for 268 yards and one score. And this week he faces no challenge against Tampa who has allowed at least one score to opposing receivers in every game and 17 total this season. Moore has the potential to score WR2 numbers this week.

TE

ERIC EBRON, IND

Now that Doyle is out for the rest of the season, Ebron should go back to his early season performance once again. Ebron leads all tight ends with 12 total TDs, the next best is Kelce with 7. And facing the Jags D who has allowed 6 receiving touchdowns to opposing TEs in the past 4 weeks, I see Ebron having a chance to be this weeks number one tight end.

PINE RIDERS

QB

TOM BRADY, NE

ar-180209658

The GOAT has an extremely tough matchup this week against the Vikings who have allowed only 4 passing touchdowns since week 6. And during that span, only two Quarterbacks have broken 200 passing yards. Plus with the Patriots looking more like a run first offense as of late, I see Brady outside of my top 12 QBs this week.

CARSON WENTZ, PHI

Wentz has not been great this year, after tearing his ACL late last season. And I see his woes continuing this week. Since the Eagles week off three weeks ago, Wentz has three touchdown passes and four interceptions thrown. And facing a Redskins D who have allowed only three passing touchdowns in the last three weeks, Wentz should be on the bench this week.

RB

MARLON MACK, IND

Since coming back from an injury in week 6, Mack has been pretty consistent. Touching the ball at least 13 times in each game and finding the end zone 5 times. But facing a Jacksonville Defense who haven’t allowed a rushing touchdown or a 100 yard rusher since week 7, I would look somewhere else if possible this week.

LeGARRETTE BLOUNT, DET

It is looking like Kerryon Johnson will be sidelined once again this week, and you might be thinking another game for Blount to go off. But think again. Playing against the red hot Rams, the Lions should be down big for a great portion of the game. And that means Theo Riddick will be out there to catch passes, unlike last weeks Thanksgiving game where Blount feasted and had 20 touches. Blount is a very risky and TD dependent flex this week.

WR

TY HILTON, IND

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Indianapolis Colts

TY has been amazing in the past two weeks, catching 16 passes for 280 yards and two scores. But this week he faces Jalen Ramsey and the Jags, who, just three weeks ago, held TY to 3 catches for 77 Yards. I see the same kind of game from TY this week. Rank him as a boom or bust WR3 this week.

JOSH GORDON, NE

Gordon has been decent for the Pats since the trade, catching at least four passes since week 6. But he has managed to only find the end zone once in that time frame. And he faces a tough Vikings secondary this week, who have allowed one or less receiving touchdowns this year in all games but one. I rank Gordon as a low end Flex this week.

TE

JIMMY GRAHAM, GB

Since the week 7 bye, Jimmy graham has surpassed 5 PPR fantasy points only twice and only has two touchdown receptions all year. And with his injured thumb, which you could tell affected him in last weeks game, I place Graham outside of my top 10 TEs this week.

Changing the Game: Patrick Mahomes is the Steph Curry of the NFL

Patrick Mahomes the NFL’s version of Steph Curry

To say that Steph Curry has changed the game of basketball would be an understatement. He is, without a shadow of doubt, the greatest three-point shooter of all time at the age of 30. He has smashed records, won MVP (twice), and continues to win championships. Whether you hate the Warriors or not, Steph Curry is the reason the NBA is where they are now. If you look at the numbers the release at the end of the year every season, the NBA continues to grow, and it’s been so popular with Steph Curry on top. Curry’s ability to hit shots from half court and win games with the most ridiculous shots brings fans to seats. Having the ability to hit the three ball from anywhere at any time is what the fans want to see. And now, the NFL is getting their version of Steph Curry, which is huge for the league and the reason it makes sports so fun to watch.

I get it, people have talked up Mahomes all season. But his talent is league changing. The ability to make any throw in any way is unbelievable. The high-powered offense that he has been entered into makes his abilities soar. Yes, Aaron Rodgers can make all the throws, but there’s just something about Mahomes that makes it more special. The power in his arm matches the likes of the original gunslinger, Brett Favre. The way he is able to move and throw on the run is game-changing. The swagger that Mahomes has, the ability to be apart of such a high-powered offense that can legitimately score on every single play is what makes him great. Fast paced action is what attracts fans. The ability to score at will is what sets Mahomes and Curry apart from the pact in their respective sports.

giphy
This man is something else

Mahomes numbers this season through 11 games are on pace to break records. 3,628 passing yards and 37 TDs lead the entire NFL. The Kid is special, he is bringing more and more eyes to the game that are needed as the ratings for the NFL had been dropping like flies the past few seasons. The NFL knows that they have someone special in their league now, and like the NFL has done, they must take advantage. Maybe instead of putting the Cowboys in primetime 70 times every season, maybe you continue to get the most electric player they’ve seen in years since Michael Vick. Deep bombs, missile darts down the field, and the ability to use different arm angles to deliver a beautiful throw. It’s exactly what the NFL has needed.

Will Mahomes cap off this magical season with and MVP award and maybe even more? That remains to be seen. But the amount of buzz the Rams/Chiefs game had was a lot to do with Mahomes. And do you remember the buzzer beater Steph Curry hit against the Thunder in a primetime game in February of 2016? Well if you don’t, here is a reminder.

tenor

It was a perfect scenario for such a big-time game. And last night, that is what everyone wanted to see again. Somehow, someway Mahomes pull off a wild throw to win the game. And while it failed to happen, it made the game that more exciting. The possibility of Mahomes leading them down the field was enough to make that game even more exciting somehow.

A cannon, some swagger, and a bright future makes Mahomes exactly what the NFL has been looking for, changing the sport, just like Steph Curry did for the NBA. (They also slightly look alike)

The 2017 Quarterback Class could compete with the 2004 Draft Class

The 2004 NFL Draft brought many enormously successful talents to the biggest stage. Larry Fitzgerald, Sean Taylor, Vince Wilfork, DeAngelo Hall, Jonathon Vilma, Steven Jackson, Darnell Dockett, and a slough of other Pro-Bowl talent were brought into the league as part of the 2004 NFL Draft. However, the class was highlighted by three Hall of Fame Quarterbacks in Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, and Ben Roethlisberger.

Manning, Roethlisberger and Rivers rank 6th, 7th, and 8th on the passing yards list respectively. The trio have amassed 17 Pro-Bowl Awards and four Super Bowl Championships. They are etched in the National Football League’s History and have been tied to each other ever since. As this group reaches the end of their career and starts to look towards their Hall of Fame inductions, a new class has come in and made waves.

2017 Quarterback Draft Class

Mitchell Trubisky (2nd Overall) – Chicago Bears

See the source imageTrubisky was drafted by a team that knew they needed a franchise Quarterback to build around. In his sophomore season, Trubisky is getting the job done. The Bears have built an elite defense that allows Mitchell to play smart and not have to force the ball down the field all game long. He has made the right reads this season, and lead the Chicago bears to a 7-3 record, good for first in the NFC North. Through 10 games this season, Trubisky has accumulated 2,469 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He has done enough to keep his team in the game and has grown substantially in his sophomore season. As a rookie Mitchell was barely even a game manager. This year with new head coach Matt Nagy, Trubisky has been able to flourish. I expect Matt Nagy to stick around for a while, and for Mitchell Trubisky to improve each season he spends with the young offensive minded Head Coach.

Patrick Mahomes (10th Overall) – Kansas City Chiefs

See the source imageMahomes had the lowest amount of hype surrounding him coming out of Texas Tech despite having an absolute rocket for an arm. Fortunately for football fans, the Kansas City Chiefs did their due diligence and found somewhat of a diamond in the rough, despite selecting him with the 10th overall pick. Mahomes was brought into a great situation with the Chiefs. He was able to learn under Alex Smith, who took him under his wing despite being direct competition. Andy Reid developed the now 23-year-old rising star into one of the brightest young talents in football. After spending all but one game as Alex Smith’s understudy last season, Mahomes has come in and taken the league by storm. He leads the NFL with 3,628 passing yards and 37 touchdowns. “Showtime” has lead his team to a 9-2 record after a 54-51 shootout loss to the powerhouse Rams. While his numbers are still MVP quality, they were impacted by some risky throws down the stretch that he had to make to give his team a chance to comeback. Mahomes could legitimately become one of the greats in the league. He has all the tools and is in a perfect situation with Andy Reid at the helm. There aren’t many players with a brighter future in the NFL.

Deshaun Watson (12th Overall) – Houston TexansSee the source image

Watson had one of the best college careers in recent memory. He was in back to back College Football National Championship Games as a Clemson Tiger and defeated Alabama in his final season, under Dabo Swinney. He came into the NFL and lit the league on fire before tearing his ACL to end his rookie season in his seventh game with the Texans. After impressing in his first year, Watson has comeback strong after a long rehab process. Watson has thrown for 2,597 yards, 18 touchdowns, and surrendered 9 interceptions. He has lead the Texans to a 7-3 record, first in the AFC South. Watson’s story has been underappreciated this season. Everyone is busy talking about the Rams and Chiefs and are forgetting about the Texans who to everyone’s surprise, are in first place. I am not saying that the hype around those two teams are unwarranted, but people need to start talking about what the Texans have done so far this season. Watson is able to rack up some yards with his legs, but has the arm talent to be successful in the pocket as well. Unlike Cam Newton, Watson has shown the ability to drive down the field consistently with his arm, not his legs. He is also a leader and has been praised for his poise and work ethic. Watson is a smart, athletic quarterback that could last a long time and put up numbers in the National Football League.

This new trio of Trubisky, Mahomes and Watson have an opportunity to form a new group of NFL greats. Add Goff and Wentz from the 2016 NFL Draft and the league has plenty of young talent to make the league entertaining for at least a decade.

WEEK 12 SMART STARTS & PINE RIDERS

Better late than never, am I right? Hello Fantasy enthusiasts. I hope everyone’s season is going well as we are in the closing weeks of the fantasy regular season. In this article i’ll be letting you know who I think should easily have a spot in your lineup and who should take a seat this week. Hopefully I can be of some assistance in a very crucial part of the season and help everyone catch that W this week. Also, Happy Turkey Day to everyone! Eat up and watch some football! Hope y’all enjoy 🙂

SMART STARTS

QB

JAMEIS WINSTON, TB

usa_today_10379644-0

The magic is gone down in Tampa and Jameis has a very easy matchup against a San Fran Defense who has allowed 2+ passing touchdowns in all but two games this year. Also, 7 out of 10 opposing QBs have scored at least 19 fantasy points against the Niners. Jameis should help you steal that win like the crab legs he stole back in 2014.

MITCH TRUBISKY, CHI

Just two weeks ago, Trubisky balled out against the Lions for 355 yards and 3 touchdowns and also scrambling for 18 yards and a score. And, it has been back to back weeks where the Lions have allowed 350+ yards and 3 touchdowns through the air as SuperCam did it last week as well. I expect Mitch to carve up the Lions D, just like a turkey on Thanksgiving.

RB

NICK CHUBB, CLE

Since week 6, the Bengals have allowed 8 rushing touchdowns. So Chubb has a very high chance of finding the End Zone at least once this week, especially because he has back to back weeks with a rushing touchdown. Not only this, but Cincinnati has allowed at least 86 rushing yards to opposing RBs since week 3, including 360 yards combined in the past to weeks. With Chubb’s high volume in a run heavy offense, I expect a great week.

MARLON MACK, IND

Mack has a very favorable matchup this week against the Dolphins. 7 out of 10 games this year Miami has allowed 100 yards rushing to opponents. In the 5 games Mack has played since returning from an ankle injury, he has 5 total touchdowns and three games with at least 80 rushing yards, including two games with over 120 yards. Mack should continue his success this week.

WR

JULIAN EDELMAN, NE

usa_today_9869888-0

Since returning from a four game suspension, Edelman has scored under 16 fantasy points only twice in PPR leagues and has 24 catches in the past three games. As Brady’s number one target he should be started most weeks, but especially this week against a weak Jets secondary who just allowed 41 points to the Bills before there bye week.

DOUG BALDWIN, SEA

Baldwin told the media last Thursday that he woke up for the first time all season without pain in his right knee, and it showed. He caught 7 of a team high 10 targets for 1 touchdown, but could have had another if Wilson didn’t overthrow him while wide open in the endzone. And this week he is going against a Carolina defense who has allowed 5 TDs and 563 yards receiving in the past three weeks. Baldwin is flirting with becoming a WR2 once again.

TE

VANCE Mcdonald, PIt

With the tight end position being so slim this year, McDonald has turned into a possible viable starter, accumulating 10 targets and two touchdowns in the past two weeks. And going against the Broncos who have allowed a touchdown to tight ends in three straight games makes him a great start this week.

PINE RIDERS

QB

PHILIP RIVERS, LAC

Rivers now has 3 weeks in a row with less than 20 fantasy points and 3 interceptions in those three games. And going up against the Cardinals who have not gave up more than two passing touchdowns all year long, Rivers could easily struggle. Especially because of all the pressure he will face as Arizona has at least 4 sacks in three straight games.

DESHAUN WATSON, HOU

usa_today_11399741-0

It is now five consecutive weeks where Watson has failed to break 240 passing yards and he has 5 games this year with only one passing touchdown. Even if you put aside his struggles, he has a tough matchup against the Titans who have allowed only 4 Qbs to score more than 20 fantasy points against them this year. Watson should be placed on the bench easily this week.

RB

LeSEAN McCoy, BUF

LeSean McCoy

Despite McCoy going off two weeks ago against the Jets rushing for 113 yards and two scores, it has been an underwhelming season for the veteran back. And his troubles should continue this week against the Jags who have allowed only 4 rushing touchdowns all year and only 110 rushing yards in the past two weeks. Plus, it’s hard to trust any Bills player this year.

TEVIN COLEMAN, ATL

Coleman has struggled the past two weeks gathering just 19 carries for 102 yards rushing. And his slump very much could continue against the Saints this week. The most rushing yards the Saints have allowed a team to get in a game this year is 76 and that was week one against the Bucs. They have only allowed 6 scores on the ground as well. Tevin should have a quiet game this week.

WR

DEVIN FUNCHESS, CAR

In the past four weeks, Funchess only has caught 12 passes for 142 yards and no touchdowns. Yikes. This offense is truly McCaffrey’s with a sprinkle of Greg Olsen now that he is healthy. And if that isn’t bad enough, Seattle hasn’t allowed a receiving touchdown in two straight weeks and that was against Green Bay and the Rams. Funchess’ quietness should continue this week.

COREY DAVIS, TEN

Davis has been very up and down this year. For example, two weeks ago he goes 7 for 125 and a score, but comes back last week with only 2 catches for 30 yards. Very annoying. But I am predicting another down game for the second year wideout. Houston has not allowed a receiving score in four straight weeks and only six all year. Davis should easily be placed on the bench this week.

TE

ROB GRONKOWSKI, NE

623078542-0

The elite tight end has struggled to stay on the field yet again this year. But even when he was healthy he wasn’t the Gronk everyone was used to seeing, scoring only once back in week one. Plus, the Jets have allowed only 5 catches to tight ends in the past four games they have played. Look for another quiet one from Gronk.

Breaking: Josh Gordon heading to New England

Breaking: Josh Gordon heading to New England

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, WR Josh Gordon has been traded to the New England Patriots. The Browns will receive a conditional 5th round draft pick. And there’s a catch. If Gordon plays less than ten games, the Patriots get the draft pick back.

The New England Patriots lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday and the sky was falling. People began to question the Patriots once again and it just brings a smile to my face. They are fine people. Just get over a simple L like they always have early on. This offense is a few weeks away from being back to normal. Now you add Josh Gordon? Electric factory.

This trade makes all the sense in the world for the Patriots. They take on a troubled yet game-changing WR who can become an asset so this team. Not just in the terms of being a elite receiver for this team, but being a presence that can free up Gronk, which is key to the Patriots success. This deal is an incredibly exciting one for Patriot fans, and certainly a scary one for everyone else in the league.

And an even better little factor here, Gordon looks to be healthy enough to play Sunday if he can lock himself in enough to learn.

WTF Sports Fantasy: Week 1 Start’s

Twitter: scott_edwards18

What is up everyone? It’s finally that time of the year for football to return, and even more important, it is time for Fantasy Football to return. Last season with our fantasy writer, Tate Kennedy, created one of our more successful series of writing yet, “Smart Starts and Pine Riders’. And while I do believe that will be returning for you all this season, I will be giving it a go for the first week of the season. I will not be naming obvious people like Gurley or Gronk, because duh. And while I may not have the big creative name, I do have the knowledge that will hopefully help you be mindful before setting your lineup before this coming Sunday. Here we go:

STARTS: Quarterbacks

Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

philip-rivers-101316-usnews-getty-ftr_nger0qpm34ho1dz9xdbytopk0

Rivers and his Chargers will be facing the Chiefs, who looks to be without Eric Berry with a defense who does not have a strong defensive back core anyways. Rivers was the QB7 last year, and with a full offseason to get chemistry with more of his players not named Keenan Allen, the numbers should burst off the box score for the Chargers QB on Sunday. And while I am at it, if you have a Charger… START THEM. This game on Sunday should be a shootout, making the Chargers real exciting. Start Rivers with confidence.

Projection: 23.5 Fantasy Points

Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams

bgre3f7ju5dqro5nhxmfwh2lvi

The goal here was not to have both Los Angeles teams represented, but Jared Goff and the Rams are going to prey on the Raiders defense on Monday Night. While the Raiders defense was among the worst last season, it got a lot worse with the trade of Khalil Mack. The Rams at times last season were unstoppable and being able to replace a guy like Sammy Watkins with a burner like Brandin Cooks at WR can only make this offense better. I am playing Goff in any situation this week, expect big time numbers.

Projection: 25.2 Fantasy Points

STARTS: RBs

Start of the Week: James Conner, Pittsburgh Steelers

usatsi_11182673-copy

I feel like this one should be a layup, but you may even second guess it. The story of the week has been Le’Veon Bell, and it is a given that he will not be playing this Sunday. So next man up, right? James Conner has a phenomenal preseason and is now in the driver’s seat to start for the Steelers, meaning he should start for your fantasy team as well. The weather reports for Cleveland this Sunday? 100% chance of rain. And that thing where Big Ben stinks on the road will just be truer than ever. If you have Conner, he very well could finish the week as a top 10 back. Get him in your lineup.

Projection: 19.7 Fantasy Points

Royce Freeman, Denver Broncos

royce-freeman-1024x576

Time to let Rolls Royce loose people. There has not been a player I have been bigger on this preseason than Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman. The rookie scored in all three games he played this offseason, leading to him being named starter by Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph. While you may read a matchup against the Seahawks and tremble with fear, they just simply are not the same as they once were. After a tough offseason on the entire defense, Royce could have a big-time game in the first of his career. I expect the Broncos to have a steady attack, with Royce at the head of it. Start this man with all the confidence in the world.

Projection: 15.4 Fantasy Points

Chris Thompson, Washington Redskins

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins

Yes, I know Adrian Peterson was named the starter for the Washington Redskins. Yes, I know Chris Thompson broke his leg last season. But did you know that Thompson played 10 games last season, scoring 15+ in 6 of them. And now, with Alex Smith at QB, it feels as though a lot of dump offs to the RB are in favor here, especially since it will be unlikely AP is ever out there for passing situations. He may rank more of a flex play than anything, but he will do enough to help you towards a win. He may be the most trustworthy guy on this list, so start Thompson knowing his floor should be at least 8 points because of his PPR prowess.

Projection: 12.9 Fantasy Points

STARTS: WRs

TY Hilton, Indianapolis Colts

Cleveland Browns v Indianapolis Colts

While you probably have to start TY due to where you draft him, I consider him a big time start this week. This will be Andrew Luck’s first game back in over a season. And in this game, they will be facing the Cincinnati Bengals. The amount of speed he possesses and chemistry he has with Luck, I expect TY to have a big-time game. While a lot of people may have some trust issues with TY this season because of how inconsistent he was last year, just know that when Luck is under center, TY is a top 10 fantasy wideout. Start him with pride this week as a WR1.

Projection: 20.3 Fantasy Points

Emmanuel Sanders, Denver Broncos

usa_today_10302258-0

Does anyone remember where Adam Thielen ranked just a season ago in points for a WR? 9th. He ranked as a WR1 a season ago. His QB? Case Keenum. Keenum is now with the Broncos and has shown a real chemistry already with the 9th year receiver has proven before that he can be a real good fantasy producer, and if he is the top choice for Case Keenum this season, his numbers could easily be top 20 in the league. With the top corner more than likely expected to be covering Demaryius Thomas, Sanders should thrive all season long, especially on Sunday in his first regular season game with Keenum under center. Roll Sanders on out this weekend.

Projection: 17.5 Fantasy Points

Kenny Stills, Miami Dolphins

usa_today_9792009-0

Jarvis Landry is gone, DeVante Parker is out, and Ryan Tannehill is back under center. Someone has to become Tannehill’s new favorite receiver. While Danny Amendola does seem to fill into the role of Landry, I beg to differ. Sure, Amendola could have some nice numbers this season, but he is already being challenged by Albert Wilson to lose targets. So, enter Kenny Stills. Stills has been a big play player for years now, making things happen every single year and never really getting the appreciation. Well this season may be Kenny Stills breakout, starting game one of the season when he is the only receiver returning from the last time Tannehill played a regular season game. He faces this new Titans team, and I believe his numbers will be made through volume more than anything else. I expect the Dolphins to be playing from behind, leaving lots of chances for Stills to shine.

Projection: 11.9 Fantasy Points

STARTS: TE

Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins

jordan-reed-featured

For at least one moment, Jordan Reed his healthy for the season. Alex Smith is his QB. Alex Smith makes TEs top fantasy performers. Jordan Reed has a lot of talent that seems to never be shown because of injury. Well for now, his health is pretty good, so role him out there with pride while you have the chance. That is why this Is week to week, because Reed can at least make it on this list once this season. I expect a big day from Reed.

Projection: 16.7 Fantasy Points

So, there you have it, the starts of the week for week 1. I will do my best to get out a bust list for the week, but if not, this is truly what you need the most. Good luck this season, and especially this week. I hope it helps you out.
